I am looking to part with my 1990 Pontiac Trans Am, ttop 5 speed, tpi 5.0. I originally picked this up as a project last summer and though I have invested some time and money into it, I don't feel I have the time and commitment to get it where I would want. Car has 97000 miles on it and blue books for 2200 in fair condition
Body:
The body is straight for the most part. There is a small dent on the drivers side fender that could easily be knocked out if you removed the fender. The paint is not so good, its getting to be in bad shape on the bumpers (due to improper painting by the previous owner) and the overall quality isn't outstanding. Overall, a little elbow grease and maybe some fresh paint would make it a beautiful car. It has the rather desirable black cross lace 16" rims that appear to be in good shape though new tires would be a good idea. When I had the carpet out, I also verified that this is a very rust free car, quarter panels, floor pans, everything is very clean from rust. I still have pictures of the car with removed carpet if you would like to see them.
Interior:
This has been a focus point for me during my ownership of the car. Ive put a very nice condition shifter plate on it with a practically brand new shift boot. The center console lid is in very good shape, a rarity on these cars. I replaced the beat up old gray carpet with some very nice condition black carpet out of a low mile camaro as well as replacing the gray interior plastics with black plastics out of the same car. It has gray seats in it which are a little worn down but they are tear free. Door panels could use some freshening and the dash pad is cracked up pretty well.
Engine:
5.0 liter tpi (lb9) factory engine. Runs well, starts up just fine all of the time and pulls as hard as I believe it should. It does have some yellow top Ford 19# injectors in it replacing the factory ones, otherwise stock. The car does pass emissions and very well at that. Typical smoke on start up that is expected with any GM small block of this era (just leaky valve stem guide seals).
Transmission:
Factory t-5 5 speed. Shifts well, no complaints.
Overall a great project car and perfectly drivable in the meantime. Anyone who has spent any time with the history of these third generation f bodies knows that 1990 is a very low production year, only 1056 Trans Ams were made that year. It is also rather uncommon to find the tpi 5 speed combo. I've personally watched for sale on this generation of firebirds and have seen next to no 5 speed tpi cars come up in the last 2 years.
I am asking $1800 and I'm not too negotiable but we'll see, letting it go for less than that really becomes not worth it to me. It may be far from perfect but it's money well spent on a great platform if you're looking for a little project or even a fun driver.
Feel free to email me with any questions, I know somewhat limited history of the car but I do have a carfax from last year as well as a great deal of knowledge about these cars in general. Thank you for looking.
